October 2007: New Book Published!

Derbyshire Poetry Books Sold Out!

Tom Bates On TV:

Following Tom's appearance on BBC TV on the `Inside Out' programme on BBC 1 in October which celebrated 100 years of the National Trust in Derbyshire, there followed an invitation by BBC Radio 4 to appear in the `Open Country' Series as resident historian in a programme featuring presenter Michael Jordan, recorded also in Dovedale, which was broadcast in late November 2006.


Lecture Tour Cancelled owing to Illness:

A series of lectures about the `People & Places' of the Peak District of Derbyshire was scheduled to commence in the Spring of 2007 under the title, `An Evening with Tom Bates', but illness has forced the cancellation of the entire series and has `grounded' Tom to convalescence at home. Therefore Tom wishes to apologies to all concerned - all future public appearances have been cancelled, but in their place, for good or ill, this web-site has been launched which, it is hoped, will allow public access to Tom's ongoing and previously published work.


Books in progress!

Tom's long-awaited novel, `The Adventures of Harry the Hippie' is nearing completion and a publishing date of `sometime around Christmas' is forecast - although Tom didn't say which Christmas!

The semi-autobiographical `Suicide Generation' - as yet without a publisher -is also progressing excellently, and it is hoped, will follow Harry the Hippie to completion by the end of 2007.


News from the `Other Side of the World!

Well known Australian best-selling biographer, Beverley Eley reports from the `other side of the world' that her latest biography following in the wake of the success of `Ion Idriess' and `The Book of David' is a biography of Tom Bates - which is already well on the way to completion! Watch this space!
