High Office for Tom the Druid!
April was a busy month, beginning with a speaking engagement in Rotherham on 11th on behalf of the Alzheimers Society, followed by a poetry reading at Derby University on 18th.

But the highlight of the spring season was an outdoor engagement of a completely different kind, when on May 1st at the annual gathering of the Ancient Order of Derbyshire Druids, near Birchover in the Peak District, Tom Bates, inducted at Riber in 1993 as Bard of Whittington, was ceremoniously installed Elder of the Order, and received the Staff of Office.
History Lesson at Dronfield Library!
Tom will be at Dronfield Library on Thursday May 8th, initially he says, "to learn something from the local history group" - but we suspect he may also be showing over two hundred slides of the Peak District and talking about his latest book, `Northern Derbyshire - Snapshots in Time'. Rumour also has it that he will be displaying a collection of rare historic artifacts - and giving away copies of his books! The talk commences at 10-30am.
On Friday May 16th Tom will be reading poetry at Old Whittington, and speaking at the celebrations to mark the 92nd birthday of lifelong Whittington resident, Mrs. Nellie Bramley.
